This past weekend I took my daughter to Flagstaff so we both could try something new; Madison skied and I snowshoed. I watched Madison struggle with the concepts of the new sport, fall, get back up, fall, laugh at herself, and eventually made it down the bunny hill successfully. What amazes me about children is their ability to fall and get back up. They don't have to be the best, they have grace and ease with learning something new. I always push myself to try new sports and have a hard time not being successful right away. Snowshoeing felt like hiking in flippers. I had to adjust my gait and learned that walking backwards will result in falling and causing those around to laugh at you. This weekend I fell and got back up. I enjoyed the process of learning something new and being physical in a different way. When was the last time you tried something new? When was the last time you allowed yourself the grace to fall and prove to yourself that you can get back up and keep trying until you are successful? Starting a new fitness routine can be challenging. Believe in the process and you will be surprised at what your body will accomplish. A new session of my running and boot camp classes start today at G.R. Herberger park. Come try something new!
